A new opportunity

Rethinking the way forward

Could it be you? We’re rethinking the way forward at St John’s, and inviting people who have an interest in any (but not necessarily all) of the following to get in touch: local social, industrial and family history, heritage, walking, nature on our doorstep, getting creative, cycling, community fun activities. The new Heritage Gateway that now forms part of the building is an amazing place (you don’t need to take our word for that – just look at the visitor comments!) with great facilities and it needs a team to manage it. There is a small team at the moment headed up by Celia, but she and Ewan are moving to pastures new in the summer and this creates the opportunity to separate the running of the Heritage Gateway from that of the church. The church and building will continue to be managed by the PCC who have to be members of the Church of England to do that, but there are no such requirements for the Heritage Gateway team. So could that be you? Roles will vary from day-to-day maintenance to marketing the resource, from arranging activities to managing the installed tech, from seeking new deposits of data and exhibits to welcoming occasional visitor and school groups, and your commitment can fit with your available time and energy. If you would like to express your interest, or find out more, please email stjohnsdoddington@gmail.com, or message us through our Facebook or Instagram pages, and we encourage you to come to our Annual Meeting on 29 April 7pm at Doddington Village Hall where this new arrangement will be the main discussion.

If you haven’t visited yet, do drop in any day from 9am – 5pm and experience “amazing”!

Knit & Natter continues every 3rd Monday, and our services continue on first Sunday (11am) and third Sunday (3pm) each month. In particular our Easter service on 5th April at 11am and we’re delighted to be displaying heritage daffodils again, supplied by Charlotte from the host of golden daffodils which appear in her field every year.  All welcome.
