Heritage Gateway Unveiled
St John's Doddington is welcoming visitors back following an extensive restoration project
A "fabulous" performance, a Lord Lieutenant's visit, a walking opportunity & Harvest celebrations!
Were you at the second performance of Song of the Hill? “Fabulous” was the much-repeated word about the evening in St John’s. “West End theatrical show standard” even! If you missed it, look out for further opportunities to enjoy this and more music from our amazing Songwriter Sid Peacock.
We were honoured to receive the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, her deputy, and the Dean of Hereford Cathedral, all brought by Archdeacon Fiona who has been so supportive of all we have done. Impressed by the new exhibits and facilities, they enjoyed a cuppa from our proper coffee machine while watching a professionally produced new short film about the Song of the Hill, and enthused about the visit for the rest of the day as they continued to tour Shropshire.
Even if you’ve already visited St John’s you are encouraged to visit again to see new additions to this heritage gateway – something new is being added every week! And don’t forget to keep checking other pages of the website as new videos and content are added.
If you have enjoyed (or been sad to miss) our guided walks, why not join us on Saturday 13th September for our Ride and Stride – we’ll be walking from St John’s to Cleeton St Mary and Silvington churches, and back via Hopton Bank Chapel. You are invited to do part or all of the route and get sponsors - money raised is shared between St John’s and Shropshire Historic Churches Trust who have repeatedly and generously supported us with grants over the last few years from funds raised by this very sponsorship – a virtuous circle if ever there was! Sponsor forms available in St John’s or email us.
